GNSA PhD-DNP Collaboration Grant

Overview

The Graduate Nursing Student Academy (GNSA) is introducing a new grant to support innovative collaborations among students in PhD and DNP programs. The GNSA will award a $2,000 grant to support a scholarly initiative focused on generating new knowledge and translating research into practice. Grant recipients will provide exemplars for how future doctoral students can collaborate in ways that advance nursing science and practice. 

Examples of potential projects include but are not limited to:

  • Team-based nursing literature review
  • Collaborative submission of a paper to a professional journal
  • Joint presentation at a nursing conference
  • Joint research/practice application of an intervention in practice
  • Submit a grant together and receive funding. 
  • Demonstrate a change to practice that PhD-DNP student have led.

To be considered for this grant, applications must:

  • Include at least one PhD student and one DNP student. Teams of students (no more than 6) are also welcome to apply.
  • Demonstrate collaborative work that has the potential to advance science or influence outcomes related to health care, nursing practice, and/or health policy.
  • Demonstrate scholarly rigor and contribution to the profession.
  • Exemplify innovation in PhD-DNP collaboration and leadership in nursing practice.
  • Include a personal statement (written jointly by the PhD-DNP team) that addresses how the project will contribute to their current and future practice and career goals as well as addresses the above criteria. 

Applications must be submitted online no later than August 23, 2024 at 11:59 pm ET. All GNSA members from 大象传媒 member schools are eligible to apply. The application can be saved in the portal as you progress, but we recommend that you review the application contents prior to completing it online.

Project Information

  • Project Title (15-word limit)
  • Background and Significance (describe global and/or specific issue(s) addressed in the project – 100 word-limit)
  • Purpose/Objective(s) and/or Specific Aims (150-word limit)
  • Conclusion(s) (100-word limit)
  • Identify how funds will be spent (100-word limit)
  • Personal Statement. The statement should address the following criteria and be written jointly by the PhD-DNP team (1,200-word limit). 
    • Demonstrate collaborative work that has the potential to advance science or influence outcomes related to health care, nursing practice, and/or health policy.
    • Demonstrate scholarly rigor and contribution to the profession.
    • Exemplifies innovation in PhD-DNP collaboration and leadership in nursing practice. 
    • Describe the collaborative efforts between the PhD student and the DNP student to complete this project.
    • Address how the project contributes to the PhD-DNP student teams current and future practice career goals.

Commitment Statement

  • Recipients will be responsible for a final report, which will be due in July 2025. 
  • Reports/findings will be shared with the GNSA membership via our website, GNSA Bulletin, and social media. 
  • Scholars will be expected to present a webinar for the GNSA members in August 2025.

This application will require the upload of 2 items and the CV for the PhD student and the DNP student. The following naming convention is required. "Last Name PhD Student_Last Name DNP Student_ITEM_Date", example SmithPhD_SmithDNP_PersonalStatement_8.5.2024.

When uploading your items, please verify that they are in final format, i.e. no track changes are evident.

  • June 5, 2024 – Application opens
  • August 23, 2024 – Application closes
  • August 2024 – Recipients notified, awarded, and announced
  • August 2024 – July 2025 – Grant timeframe
  • July 2025 – Final reports submission
  • August 2025 – Plan to share and disseminate findings via webinar with GNSA membership
